Linking London BTEC Practitioner Group Meeting
When:

While the government has announced the pausing of the defunding of applied general qualifications that overlap with T Levels, including BTECs, following the “rapid review” in December, their future is still under threat. BTEC qualifications are disproportionately studied by disadvantaged students and those with lower levels of prior attainment and there are serious concerns in the sector that many of these students will be left without an appropriate alternative and at risk of becoming NEET if the pause is just a delay before defunding.
This meeting then will provide you with the very latest BTEC news and developments and what we know so far. Inputs include from Ria Bhatta Head of Stakeholder Engagement Pearson and Noni Csogor, Research and Policy Manager at The Sixth Form Colleges Association.
Following a partner round table update, we will also be looking at approaches to supporting BTEC learners with their next steps post course. With over 270,000 students still studying an Applied General Qualification, helping BTEC learners make informed choices and successful transitions is as important as ever. At the meeting we will be hearing from Claire Read from the Ark Academy who will be outlining their innovative programme of support for BTEC learners and what works from their perspective.
These meetings are aimed at FE staff, including teaching and curriculum leads and managers, careers advisers, as well as university colleagues in admissions and widening participation roles. However, anyone with an interest in BTEC learners and progression to HE is welcome to attend.
Please note this event is for Linking London Partners only.
