Internship programme

Thanks to a funding grant from the Birkbeck Graduate Research School (BGRS), the Birkbeck Institutes have provided year-long professional training for some of Birkbeck’s postgraduate students through an internship programme.

The programme, which ran from 2013 to 2019, offered up to four students the opportunity to work closely with the BIH and BISR Directors and Manager to gain experience of working within a professional environment with a variety of academic and professional staff.

A key part of the internship was the organisation of the annual Birkbeck Institute Graduate Conference. With support from the Manager, the interns took the lead on all elements of the conference, from developing the concept and call for papers, selecting and liaising with keynote speakers, booking venues, organising catering, and all other logistics, including monitoring the event budget.
