Bettina Scherb

Bettina is honoured to be back at Birkbeck. It was five years after she completed her undergraduate studies (in sociology, media and theatre) that Bettina decided to start a Masters in Information Technology at Birkbeck.
While studying full-time, Bettina kept working part-time remotely for a Berlin-based tech agency. After graduating, she joined a cross-border payments fintech, eventually leading a global team and working with banks, telcos, and fintechs around the world.
The worldwide travel was a bonus! Today, Bettina is a Product Management Lead at a leading financial institution in the City. Outside of work, she loves to cycle and go trekking.

Nicole Moore
—
Nicole Moore is a British-Guyanese author and editor of three anthologies of poetry and personal essays by Black and mixed-heritage women of the African diaspora. These anthologies vividly depict the Black British cultural experience, with two of them receiving funding from Arts Council England's Grants for the Arts award. Her writing encompasses a variety of forms, including creative nonfiction, art reviews, interviews, spoken word poetry, and traditional poetry. Nicole is also an interdisciplinary visual artist specialising in abstract realism painting with a political narrative. Nicole completed a Culture Diaspora Ethnicity MA at Birkbeck in January 2023. She subsequently completed a Writing MA at the Royal College of Art in May 2025. Currently, she is working on a memoir detailing her writing journey, which spans over 30 years.

Osama Al Jayousi

Osama is a Consultant in Clyde & Co’s White Collar and Sanctions group. He is a compliance subject matter expert with significant experience in regulatory investigations, risk management, ESG, and governance.
Osama was previously the Head of Compliance for a FTSE 100 company in the support services and construction sector and is regularly invited to speak at industry conferences for professionals.
Osama completed an MSc in Corporate Governance and Business Ethics at Birkbeck in 2017.

Osmund Jenssen

Osmund studied BSc Economics at Birkbeck between 2017-2020. Prior to this, Osmund had gone to film school and was working as a freelance cameraman. A curiosity for public policy around energy and climate change led Osmund down the path to study economics at Birkbeck. After graduating, he went on to do a master’s in economics at the University of Cambridge. In 2021, he started working for the consultancy Ricardo, where he worked on energy and climate change projects for clients such as the UK Government and the World Bank. During this time, he also completed a 15-month apprenticeship on Data Science and Machine Learning with Cambridge Spark. He recently joined the Energy Systems Catapult as a Senior Energy Policy Advisor working on energy markets, policy and regulation.

Richard George is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Richard George Foundation (RGF), a private, not-for-profit NGO dedicated to empowering Africa’s next generation of changemakers. Through mentorship in skills acquisition, professional development, continuous education, and entrepreneurship investment programs, RGF helps young Africans build successful careers and businesses. A qualified management consultant and organizational change specialist, Richard earned his credentials from Birkbeck, University of London. He is a frontline leader in customer operations at Transport for London (TfL), where he oversees people management, leadership development, workforce diversity, and business performance optimization. A strong advocate for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), Richard actively promotes workplace fairness and opportunities for underrepresented groups. His commitment extends to empowering women through leadership and entrepreneurship. Under his leadership, RGF launched the signature "100 Women in Business” program, designed to support and uplift female entrepreneurs. A skilled public speaker, Richard has moderated and anchored various high- profile events in the UK and internationally. He currently serves as a Global Buddies and Alumni Ambassador for Birkbeck, University of London and previously held a Governing Council position at his alma mater, Ambrose Alli University, Nigeria (2018–2022). Richard is deeply passionate about mentoring young African talents, guiding them toward strategic career clarity, professional success, and entrepreneurial leadership. His signature interactive session, “YOU-ARE-THE-ONE,” encourages individuals to tap into their potential and take ownership of their success. Sinéad Boultwood

Sinéad studied BSc Economic and Social Policy 2015-2019, including the Graduate Diploma in Economics modules. She joined Birkbeck as a mature, part-time student as long-term illness had forced her to leave university the first time around.
Sinéad joined Ofcom's graduate scheme in 2019, and has since progressed to Senior Associate Economist. She enjoys the variety of work available there, knowing that she is helping to improve people's lives, in addition to the friendly and flexible culture
