These events provide an opportunity to meet judges, solicitors and barristers and get first-hand insight into how the law works in practice. At each event, the invited speakers discuss their path int or the law and day to day life and offer advice to students looking to pursue a career in law.

IN-PERSON AND ONLINE

Clare Goodman was appointed as a judge of the First-tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber, in 2018. She hears appeals about social security benefits, including Universal Credit, Housing Benefit and disability benefits. She is also a judge in the General Regulatory Chamber, mainly hearing appeals on information rights.

Before being appointed as a judge, Clare worked as a solicitor. Qualifying in 1995, Clare worked first in intellectual property, at the law firm, Bristows, and for the BBC and Sony PlayStation. She then moved into the charitable sector, working for innovation foundation, Nesta, and the National Lottery Fund.

Clare is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion in the judiciary. She has mentored candidates and facilitates on programmes aimed ay increasing successful applications from under-represented groups.
